Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was clearly not expecting anyone to fetch his coffee as he walked into parliament this week clutching a take-out - which says quite a lot about this "humble" politician. But he spilled it as he was going through the security gate.

What he did next has won the approval of social media as - rather than apologising and going on to his appointments - he took the mop from the cleaner and cleaned it up himself, even taking a cloth to wipe down the security gate.

Apart from the bemused people walking into parliament, a group of cleaners came out to cheer him on.

Mr Rutte had already established his reputation as “one of us” in October 2017 when he went to meet King Willem-Alexander at the Royal Palace on his bicycle.
