Two construction sites – one at The Strand in Sliema and one on St George’s Road, St Julians – have applied to carry on working through the summer, seeking exemption to the ban on demolitions and excavations in tourist zones.

Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg said that the two applications were being evaluated, but gave no further details.

He was replying to a parliamentary question by MP Karon Aquilina, who asked how many applications had been made and what the outcomes were.

According to a 2007 piece of legislation, no demolitions or excavations can be carried out in tourist zones between June 15 and September 30.
