The Sa Maison home for the elderly is to be closed for renovations, meaning that nearly 60 patients living there will have to move.

Of these, 40 patients have been living there since 2003. Health Minister Chris Fearne said these patients had been moved there from Mount Carmel as a result of the Extended Care System. The plans are to move the patients to two new homes.

There are a further 18 patients who were moved to Sa Maison from Mt Carmel in November 2017 because of structural works. These would be moved to another home for the elderly but negotiations were still underway, the minister said.

He was replying to a parliamentary question by MP Mario Galea.
