The people are expecting an explanation from Economy Minister Chris Cardona about his trips abroad, the Opposition’s spokesman for good governance, Simon Busuttil said.

His statement followed a story in The Sunday Times of Malta after the National Audit Office could not establish the nature of a number of expenses claimed by the minister on his return from trips abroad, as according to his officials, receipts and other important documents had gone missing.

Dr Busuttil pointed out that Dr Cardona had been alone on these trips which had cost the people thousands of euros.

He quoted The Sunday Times of Malta saying that following a trip to Monaco, the minister claimed €2,003 on his hotel invoice. This was besides the €2,666 a night, breakfast included, that had already been paid for prior to his arrival.
