It never ceases to surprise me, how Malta keeps on coming up with absolute gems in the arts and entertainment business.

The most notable of course is Joseph Calleja, but then up popped young Gaia Cauchi who won the 2013 junior Eurovision song contest followed by Destiny Chukunyere who won it in 2015, and then Destiny’s semi-final in Britain’s Got Talent in 2017.

We now have Emma Muscat, who appeared from nowhere and is battling in a very prestigious show on Canale 5 called Amici. As I write she is in the semi-final and doing rather well against very strong competition. There are of course many more that we can be very proud of.

Apart from being very talented as a singer and as a pianist, Emma is also very beautiful and in my opinion destined for a very successful career. We can only wish her the very best of luck.

It is amazing how much talent Malta can produce out of such a small population

In the summer of 2017, on its first year of opening to international students, Emma decided to audition for the popular talent show Amici di Maria de Fillipi. Initially after various stages of auditions, Emma was not accepted at the school and she continued in her studies at the University of Malta. Then in mid-December she was invited to challenge another student, who had already been admitted to the school. Well, challenge she accepted, and she won.

The competition has been tough, but her hard work and talent carried her through. She is still there battling away, and getting more and more viewers glued to their screens and wishing her well.

To date on the show, Emma has sung with famous Italian and foreign artists, such as Laura Pausini, Elisa, Rita Pavone, Gianni Pavone, Gianni Morandi, Albano, Alice Merton and Fedez, to name a few.

This is a contest that should grip all Maltese, to support one of our own in such a prestigious competition. Emma has hit 400,000 followers on Instagram. That’s equivalent to nearly the whole population of Malta. To put that into even more perspective, she’s not only the most followed Maltese person ever, but she has nearly eight times the followers of the next top followed local celebrity.

As I said, it is amazing how much talent Malta can produce out of such a small population. We have actors, singers, musicians, artists, appearing out of every area in Malta and Gozo, and some of them are very good.

We have talented academics, doctors and lawyers, and of course let us not forget our businessmen and women. From practically nothing, the Maltese business community can produce something and has done so very successfully over the years.

Emma, bless her, she’s Maltese, very talented, and she’s fighting her heart out to be successful against all odds. Isn’t that so typical of Maltese people in general?

We can only wish her the very best of luck and show her that we areall with her and behind her in her amazing endeavours.

Join us on Sunday to support her at Spinola Square where the semi-final will be shown live on a big screen. If Emma then goes through to the final, this will also be shown live the following weekend.
