The Xagħra family park should be opened by the end of 2018, Environment Minister Jose Herrera vowed.

Responding to a parliamentary question by MP Chris Said, Dr Herrera said that the Planning Authority procedures were nearing their end, and that – in parallel – the Contracts Department was vetting the eventual tenders that would be involved. He said that these should be issued by July 2018.

The park will be located on the site of the former Qortin tip, which was eventually closed in 2009 and cleared.

The former government had started the plans for a family park but in 2016, the Labour government said that a substantial part of the site had been transferred to Enemalta which willl be installing photovoltaic (PV) panels there.
