For decades, people have bounced up and down, scraping their car doors against the rubble walls with shrubs knocking their wing mirrors, leaving a cloud of dust behind them that was impenetrable to the car behind them.

All because it was the only way to get to one of Malta's most picturesque beaches: St Peter’s Pool.

The government is planning to spend €1.8 million to lay 21,000 square metres along 6 kilometres of road, all the way from Żejtun to Tas-Silġ, Delimara, Marsaxlokk, Xrobb l-Għaġin, il-Bajja tal-Kalanka, Ħofriet and St Peter’s Pool.

Plans are being finalised for the first phase of the project, which will be partially funded by the EU, and which will in the coming weeks tackle the road and the walkway to St Peter’s Pool.

The information was given by Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg in reply to a parliamentary question by MP Byron Camilleri.
