Floriana have secured their first major signing of the close season when they signed Clayton Failla, from Hibernians, the Premier League club have announced.

After a rather disappointing 2017-18 season, which saw the team fail to challenge for the major domestic honours, the Greens have immediately started working on bolstering their squad and target the experienced Failla.

Floriana have been in talks for the 32-year-old and have now wrapped up a deal that saw Failla putting pen to paper on a two-year contract.

"I'm really happy to have signed for Floriana," Failla told florianafc.com.

"This is a club of great tradition and I am really looking forward to this new challenge. I would like to thank Hibernians for the opportunities they have provided me throughout my career."

On his part, club president Gaucci hailed Failla as a major signing.

"I am very pleased to have brought to the club a player of the calibre of Clayton Failla and surely with his qualities and experience he will be a great asset for us to continue to build a competitive team for next season."

Meanwhile, it is understood that Floriana could further strenghten their squad in the coming days as sources have told timesofmalta.com that they are close to sign striker Terrence Vella.
