Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi has decided not to seek re-election when the European Parliament elections are held this time next year.

Ms Mizzi has been an MEP since 2013.

She said on Facebook and in an interview on It-Torċa that her decision was not an easy one, but everything had a beginning and an end, and it had not been easy for her to live in four places - Brussels, Strasbourg, Malta and various airports. She now hoped to be able to enjoy her family more.

She thanked all those who had worked for her and supported her and said she would continue to work in the best interests of the Maltese and Europeans until the end of her mandate.

Ms Mizzi, wife of Mr Justice Antonio Mizzi, was first elected to the European Parliament in 2013, taking the seat vacated by Edward Scicluna when he left the European Parliament to become finance minister.
