While it is great to see that Transport Malta were carrying out much-needed asphalting works in Marina Road, Pietà recently, one has to ask what on earth has happened to the as yet unfinished works on the footpath or indeed the adjacent pedestrian priority area/bus lane that appears to be proceeding one brick at a time?

Alternative transport needs are as important as any other road infrastructure, possibly more so, if drivers want to avoid higher costs due to EU emissions fines.

Pedestrian, cycling and bus commuters need to get to work on time safely too and works on their infrastructures need to be finished with the same urgency. This includes both Kappara and Mrieħel, which are still not actually complete.

A failure to give a similar level of priority to such projects will simply force those who walk, cycle or bus to work, to switch back to using cars, thus taking up far more valuable parking and road space from other car drivers already using them. Adding far more to our congestion woes, rather than fixing them.

We need to re-prioritise.
