I cannot understand how Transport Malta and the St Julian’s local council decided and agreed to change the location of the bus stop in Balluta.

Previously, it was located in a spot where a bus, stopping to collect/drop off passengers, was of no hindrance to the traffic behind or approaching it. Now, with the brilliant idea of positioning the bus stop in a curve, the tail end of the vehicle sticks out a mile and all traffic comes to a standstill.

From what one has experienced recently, Transport Malta is trying to demonstrate to the man in the street it is doing its utmost to solve the traffic problem. It is failing very miserably.

If one were to think back, one can easily remember the increase in traffic in Gżira, all due to the idea of Transport Malta creating the bus lane, thus leaving us mortals to combat with just one lane and leaving a trail of traffic all the way to the tunnel at The Point.

Another failed experiment was also in Gżira, when it introduced numerous pylons into the road ((close to KFC), causing traffic to pile up all the way to Msida.

If Transport Malta were to pop over to St George’s Road, St Julian’s, it would (hopefully) identify the wrong positioning of the bus stop and also the zebra crossing, which needs to be pushed further down the street. To my knowledge, a request to move this zebra crossing goes back as far as 2015.

I have one bit of advice for the person responsible at Transport Malta and that is to get up from behind his/her desk, get into a car and see first-hand what monsters s/he is creating.
