Malta Properties Company chairman Deepak Srinivas Padmanabhan has also been handed CEO duties, the company said in an announcement.

Mr Padmanabhan will take over from Nikhil Patal, who will serve on a part-time basis until June 15 as part of the handover process.

Set up in 2011, MPC is owner, developer and administrator of several premium commercial properties across Malta.

It was originally a subsidiary of GO plc before being spun off into a separate venture in 2015.

Among its projects are one to build offices at Spencer Hill in Marsa, and the renovation of a Żejtun property into a new data centre for GO.

As well as chairman and now CEO of Malta Properties Company, the Dubai-based Mr Padmanabhan is also CEO of investment company Emirates International Telecommunications, chairman of Greek broadband operator Forthnet SA and board director of Tunisie Telecom, Axiom Telecom and GO plc.

Mr Padmanabhan was in the past the chairman of GO plc and chairman and CEO of SmartCity Malta, a role he had been appointed to last October.

MPC said in a later statement that "his wide and in-depth understanding of the company will improve the performance of both roles to the ultimate benefit of the board of directors as a whole, and that of shareholders".
