The fuel tanks at Birżebbuġa could not be shut down until Enemed completed three major projects, scheduled for completion in Decembr 2019, Energy Minister Joe Mizzi said.

Replying to a parliamentary question by MP Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, he explained that the 31st March 1979 tanks could be closed “once and for all” once Enemed completed underground tanks, new offices and a filling station at Ħas Saptan, and renewed the storage tanks at the airport, all of which are due to be ready by December 2019.

The projects will cost Enemed €70 million.

The MP also asked about the gas-filling facility at Qajjenza and was told that internal discussions were underway at Enemalta on the development of the area.
