Alfred Sant was sent on Xarabank to expound the theory of hedging. Sending an incorruptible person for such a job is a good move. The following Sunday, the Prime Minister repeated to his applauding audience the same song but, surely, he knew that Socar does not deal in gas.
Why go to Baku with a chosen few and without government ‘experts’ and journalists to sign the gas deal? Why would one not go directly to Shell for the purchase of gas? Why did we have to pay double the price? Why was the $40 million loss never explained to us? Why was the visit to Baku hidden from us? There must have been something to hide. Now we know why.
