A Pembroke woman's simple gesture in the wake of Tuesday's hit-and-run incident which severely injured a traffic policeman has drawn admiration and gratitude.

PC Simon Schembri was grievously injured when he was run over by a car driven by an unlicensed 17-year-old, which he was trying to stop.

The woman expressed her gratitude to the police by serving mugs of coffee to three officers who were directing traffic in her hometown during Wednesday's protest against over-development.

The senior officer present, Martin Sammut, resorted to Facebook to thank her.

"Your gesture, however small, was significant and greatly appreciated, considering the sorrow which many in the police force are feeling.

"I do not know you, but I wish to thank you on behalf of my colleagues," the officer wrote.

Meanwhile, the Malta Police have all thanked all those who called to donate blood.
