While enquiring on an unrelated matter, I was informed that Go is in the process of decommissioning its e-mail service for residential customers. I find it appalling that such a basic service will not be provided anymore.

There has been no public communication about this as yet and users will be informed a short time before the e-mail is decommissioned and presented with a ‘fait accompli’.

I am paying for a package of services but there will be no reduction in price once e-mail is decommissioned. Subscribers may not be comfortable using public e-mail services such as Gmail as an alternative and would have to incur a significant effort to amend details on several websites.

Most importantly is that in my opinion the decommissioning of this service would go against the EU right for basic internet access as detailed in https://bit.ly/2I29PZ1 . I consider web browsing and e-mail as the most basic form of internet access as these were the first services offered by Maltese ISPs when internet was introduced in Malta in 1996.
