Maltese food was on the menu at Wales' Celtic Manor Resort recently, as five Institute of Tourism Studies students cooked up a storm to mark a Maltese Day.

Guests tucked into stuffed peppers and tomatoes, bragioli and patata il-forn, among other dishes, finishing it off with a slice of bread pudding [pudina tal-hobż].

The five students are currently in Wales as part of a year-long internship, honing their skills in seven different kitchens within the Celtic Manor Resort.

Executive Head Chef Michael Bates said that he and fellow chefs wanted to challenge the Maltese students to organise their own event.

They appointed a head chef for the day, with other students doing different sections.

"They were all involved in the planning, ordering, recipes and delivery of the day," said Mr Bates.

"It was a huge success, and enjoyed by all 350 internal guests attending the lunch. Everyone was very complimentary of the food, and now the event will be in confirmed date in the calendar for future students."

ITS CEO Pierre Fenech said he was glad that students were doing well during their placement, and that he looked forward to the Celtic Manor Resort hosting more ITS students in the future.
