A series of international, short, thought-provoking documentaries, animations and feature films on the themes of sustainability and the environment will be screened in a free outdoor cinema screening called Go Greener Shorts #2 in Hospital Square, Żebbuġ, on Tuesday evening.
The event is being organised by Solar Cinema, a mobile 100 per cent solar-powered cinema that has been travelling the world for the past 10 years.
The programme of films includes Go Greener #2: Recycle, Recover and Reuse, a featurette on ideas on how to stop wasting and start creating.
Verde Churome, a 12-minute film by Roberta Bonoldi, is about a day that begins in a street with shops selling electronic products and ends in a landfill not far away.
Second Hand, a seven-minute film by Isaac King, dwells on the term ‘second hand’, which refers to the ticking hand on a clock, but also describes reused items. The film questions its audience: “Would you rather save time? Or save stuff?”
One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Gym by Great Big Story is a two-minute short film about Alcindo Soares, a construction worker from Cape Verde who dreams of becoming a professional athlete. With no access to an indoor gym, he works out on a beach every day in a gym created by garbage.
The Real Cost of Coal by Vibor Juhas is a seven-minute film about the price of coal, which is much higher than statistics show, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
What if You Fly by Renan Ozturk and Taylor Rees is a nine-minute film about muralist Sean Yoro (also known as Hula) who embarked on a daring challenge by travelling to the arctic waters of Baffin Island, Nunavut, to (eco)paint a portrait of a local Inuit woman on the sea ice.
Waste, by Sander Alt, is a one-and-a-half-minute short abouttwo tired and starving mice arrive in a food heaven… all should be well, or is it? Luminaris, by Juan Pablo Zaramella is a seven-minute film about an ordinary man who has a plan that could change the natural order of things in a world controlled and timed by light.
