Updated 12.55pm -

PN leader Adrian Delia on Sunday called on people to unite behind the Nationalist Party for a better future and said the PN needed to open its heart and not just its doors, to everyone.

Speaking during the closing of the PN’s General Council, Dr Delia acknowledged that the party had a long and difficult road ahead, but said the journey would be easier if everyone joined in.

Dr Delia said he was convinced and determined that people would unite behind the common dream for a better Malta.

He set out his vision for a people-centric society which left no one behind.

The PN leader accused the government of getting lost in numbers, while forgetting about the people who were not benefiting from economic growth.

Dr Delia vowed to offer a voice to those who were silently working away to make ends meet on a daily basis.

While it was good to attract foreign workers to Malta, Dr Delia said the people already here should benefit from decent working conditions.

He questioned what had become of the governments fight against precarious working conditions.

Dr Delia said rents had doubled for university students. He asked what had become of the government’s surplus, and who was benefitting from it.

The PN would take steps to help all those who were vulnerable in society, he said.

One of the party’s core pillars was ensuring respect and dignity for all.

He said a baby in a mother’s womb was not just a mere eight cells as the health minister said during the debate on embryo protection..

“We believe a baby in the womb is just that. Not frozen cells. Not something that should be humanised”, Dr Delia said.

He said these unborn children were 'one of us'.

Women, he said, should not be viewed as just a number or a vehicle that could be used.

The PN had to be there to facilitate all those who wanted to contribute to society, in whatever manner, he said.

Dr Delia acknowledged the new rights given to the LGBTQI community. He said the PN would strive for an inclusive society.

The PN leader described Malta as a jewel that was being slowly suffocated.

Malta should never be sold to the highest bidder, he said.

Dr Delia said Malta had reached the unfortunate stage where the only way people could live a decent life was by selling nationality, identity and sovereignty.

The PN once against needed to invest in youths, so it could once again become a party of the young.

He said the party had to not only open doors, but open hearts and listen to people.

Turning to former PN leader Simon Busuttil, who was present in the audience, Dr Delia thanked him for all he had done and for fighting corruption in the party’s name.

He said the party would not be silenced in this battle against corruption.

“We will keep fighting corruption until our last breath, until the government stops being corrupt. They are the one who need to stop being corrupt,” he said to applause.
