I read the article about euthanasia entitled ‘A different way of dying’ in Pink magazine and also on timesofmalta.com and sincerely think that the statement “Ninety per cent of Maltese doctors are against euthanasia” merits a statistical correction.

As an experienced Maltese doctor I can affirm that 100 per cent of members of my profession (anaesthetists) are against the practice of euthanasia as they believe every person has a spiritual dimension.

If the teachings of Zarathustra have influenced some members of the profession abroad, the local scene is quite different not only because the practice of euthanasia is unlawful but also because Maltese and Gozitan doctors affirm that life is sacred and has to be protected from conception to the grave.

In the quoted article I missed a reference to the cost of the euthanasia process and cremation which I believe to be quite hefty thus reserving the process for the select few who mistakenly profess that money can buy life and death.
