A Florida policeman has received plaudits from his department after his quick actions were credited with saving the life of an unresponsive baby.
Deputy Jeremie Nix was off-duty and driving home from work when he noticed a motorist flagging him down.
After pulling over, a woman rushed out of the car’s passenger seat with her three-month-old son in her arms. He was “completely unresponsive”, deputy Nix’s department later explained.
Dashcam footage shows how, as the mother called emergency services, deputy Nix tried to revive the baby, to no avail. As precious time ticks by, he decides to rush the infant to hospital himself.
“I’m not waiting on medics,” he told dispatch, before rushing the 1km to the nearest emergency room.
Medics then took the baby into care and successfully revived him, with doctors crediting Deputy Nix with having saved the infant’s life.
“We are tremendously proud of Deputy Nix and we can already see that he and Baby Kingston will have a deep connection that will last a lifetime!!” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.
