Air Malta passengers and crew aboard the airline's inaugural flight to London Southend airport got a special welcome shortly after touching ground last week.

The Air Malta plane passed beneath two arcs of high-pressure water as it taxied on the runway after it had landed last Friday.

Video of the water cannon salute was uploaded to a Facebook page dedicated to Southend-on-Sea.

"It's always a special moment when a new airline route runs for the first time!" the page administrator wrote.

London Southend is the third airport in the UK capital serviced by Air Malta, with the national airline now flying to and from the airport three times a week.
