Karen Caruana, a full-time artist and illustrator, is putting up her first solo art exhibition entitled Vernacular, at Palazzo de La Salle, Valletta.

Curated by Sabrina Calleja Jackson, the exhibition illustrates a nostalgic walk through the current evidence of Malta’s development. Caruana’s dreamy yet realistic oil paintings characterise a wish to stay in a better past and a sensitivity towards a questionable future, while exploring emotional links between the self, architecture and nostalgia.

The exhibition opens today and runs until May 27 at the Art Galleries, Palazzo de La Salle, 219, Republic Street, Valletta. The opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 7pm and Saturdays from 8.30am to 1.30pm. For more information, visit www.artsmalta.org and www.karencaruana.com.
