How to deal with children and young people when a family member’s life is disrupted by an illness is the theme of a half-day conference that the Karl Vella Foundation is hosting on Friday.

The conference, entitled ‘Left in the Sideline’, aims to raise awareness about the psychosocial well-being of the ‘healthy’ child in the family and provide tips to professionals working with these children.

It will explore the perception of illness/loss through the eyes of the ‘healthy’ child. It will also discuss the significance of play, especially with young children, and the importance of liaison between different professionals and caregivers for the best interest of the child.
