Balzan winger Alex De Paixoa Alves could be heading away from the BOV Premier League as the Brazilian is set to attend a one week trial with Serbian Premier Division side Cukaricki Belgrade.

Alves played a key role in Balzan's title quest last season netting three Premier League goals as the Reds finished second in the league and reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy.

FK Cukaricki is one of the top teams in Serbia and are currently in fourth place in the Serbian Premier Division.

The Belgrade side has qualified for the Europa League on several occasions in the last few years and are known to be a major stepping stone to major European Leagues with a number of former players from his club now play in top leagues in Holland, Belgium and Holland.

“I am delighted that a club of the status Cukaricki has selected one of our players for a trial - it is testimony to the many good things happening at Balzan FC," club president Anton Tagliaferro said.

"I am very happy that as a club we are getting on the radar screen of other reputable clubs overseas. While Lecao remains very much in our plans for our Europa League games and for next season we wish Alex the best of luck with this opportunity”.
