Updated - A blazing sun, the gentle sound of water, a wave-like floor design - just add sunbathing.

Perhaps this was not what was intended when the Tritons Fountain was restored and the surrounding square upgraded a few months ago. 

The police intervened before the woman in the picture above could have an all-round tan. 

A reader commented on the Timesofmalta Facebook page that she may have been waiting for the bus...

Some argued that she should have been left to mind her own business, but others said she was breaking the law, and this was a public monument.

Valletta 18 chairman Jason Micallef asked why three police officers needed to intervene when it could have been a tourism official to tell her politely that was not the place to sunbathe.
