The Public Health Department is now investigating a possible outbreak of gastroenteritis at Mount Carmel Hospital after seven doctors felt sick after eating there.
It is always possible that some misdemeanours at times go unnoticed but it seems that in Malta we tend not to take matters of hygiene seriously enough.
For example, I once saw someone with a dog (not a dog for the blind) in a supermarket. When I reported this to the health authorities I was told there are no laws prohibiting pets from entering a supermarket. I was also told that it was up to the manager of the establishment to decide whether pets should be allowed in.
I also recently saw a person with a dog in a café and the customers did not seem to be too concerned about this.
