Manchester City failed to fire on the day they were presented with the Premier League trophy as Huddersfield claimed a potentially crucial point in their battle for survival.

Pep Guardiola’s men failed to be inspired by the glittering pre-match ceremony and ultimately were fortunate to hold on for a goalless draw after Scott Malone missed a chance late on.

The point could yet prove vital for the Terriers, who moved further clear of the drop zone with games against Chelsea and Arsenal to come.

City welcomed back John Stones for the first time in two months and he had a busy early period as Aaron Mooy shot wide then Alex Pritchard brought a save out of Ederson.

The home side could fashion few opportunities until Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva came close in the second half, before Ederson denied Malone what would have been a famous winner.

Chelsea boosted their hopes of Champions League qualification as Olivier Giroud’s first-half header earned a 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Victory moved Antonio Conte’s men to within two points of fourth-placed Tottenham and one more off Liverpool, whose boss Jurgen Klopp now faces a difficult juggling act ahead of their Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Giroud grabbed the only goal of the game just past the half-hour mark when Victor Moses whipped in a cross which deflected slightly off Sadio Mane and allowed the Frenchman to guide a header into the corner of the net.

Arsenal’s players shrugged off a disappointing campaign to bring a rousing conclusion to Arsene Wenger’s tenure at the Emirates Stadium with a 5-0 win over Burnley.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbed the first and last goals of the game while Alexandre Lacazette, Sead Kolasinac and Alex Iwobi also scored to sink a side for whom European football is already assured.

For all the veneration heaped on Wenger, last week’s Europa League exit and the fact they can no longer trouble the Premier League’s top four are a major reason for his impending departure.

But at least the Gunners ensured an exciting send-off by cutting through an unusually weak Burnley side, dominating from the moment Aubameyang opened the scoring with just 14 minutes on the clock.
