While Valletta is being celebrated as European Capital of Culture 2018, Malta Public Transport, in collaboration with Valletta Ferry Services, Heritage Malta and Malta 5D, has launched Valletta Card.

The new Valletta Card is a 24-hour card that offers travel options to and from the city by bus or by ferry, travel within the city by bus and access to tourist attractions in Valletta.

“This is the first product that includes non-travel benefits for customers,” said Daniel Grech, commercial director at Malta Public Transport.

“We believe that no visit to Malta would be complete without experiencing the grandeur of our capital city and we have collaborated with our partners to offer customers an easier way to explore Valletta with this new card.”

The new Valletta card includes travel to and from Valletta from any location in Malta using public transport; travel to and from Valletta by ferry from Sliema and Cospicua using Valletta Ferry Services; travel within Valletta using Route 133 – the circular route; and entrance to three of any of the following attractions: The Palace State Rooms, The Palace Armoury, The National Museum of Archaeology and Malta 5D. The museums are operated by Heritage Malta.

The general manager of the Valletta Ferry Services, operators of the ferry services between Sliema and Valletta and the 3 Cities and Valletta, Joseph Sant Fournier, said: “The all new Valletta Card is the third collaboration between Malta Public Transport and Valletta Ferry Services.”

The new card offers options to and from the city

He added: “the company has no doubt that, just like the success of ExplorePlus as well as the fusion between the Ferry Services and the Tallinja card, which may be used to travel on the Ferry Service, the Valletta Card will be a huge success as it enables passengers to travel between Valletta, Sliema and the 3 Cities hassle-free by using the new card.”

Heritage Malta’s acting CEO Noel Zammit said: “This is the first time that Heritage Malta is collaborating with Malta Public Transport through this project. We believe that this initiative will be beneficial to customers, who ultimately will be offered a more flexible and cost-effective option to visit the capital city.”

Mariella Erdogan, sales manager at Malta 5D, said: “We are glad to be part of this initiative. The Valletta Card enables the independent traveller to reap the full benefits of their visit to the capital city.”

“We believe that the Malta 5D show offers our guests a general overview of the local history and culture thus enabling them to set off to discover Valletta and its neighbouring towns with the required information. Sitting through the special effects during the show will initiate the essential dose to bounce off into holiday mode.”

The Valletta Card is endorsed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation. The organisation’s chairman, Jason Micallef, said the Valletta 2018 Foundation was pleased to collaborate with Malta Public Transport on this new product which gives easy access to a number of cultural sites in Valletta. The card also serves as a souvenir of the European Capital of Culture year.

The Valletta Card may be purchased for €19 from any one of Malta Public Transport’s sales offices in Valletta, Malta International Airport, Buġibba, Sliema and Victoria for immediate use on the bus.
