I went to St Luke’s Hospital on April 18 to have some new prescribed medicine put on the so-called ‘yellow card’. As I also had to run an errand in Valletta, I asked the person at the door where the restroom was. Wonder of wonders, I was told there were no restrooms in the section and that I could either go to the main hospital or else make use of the public toilets in the square.

There was no way I would use the public toilets in the square, with the detox centre a stone’s throw away.

I therefore walked to the main hospital building, which was found dark and the door of the toilets padlocked with a notice saying they were out of order. I could not believe my eyes. Probably they were closed so they would not need to be cleaned.

I’m sure there are toilets in the ‘yellow card’ section but for the sole use of the employees. Imagine them running out into the square every time one of them needed to use the restroom.

May I suggest to the authorities concerned to use some of the surplus money the government is all the time bragging about to build decent toilets for the use of the public.
