When North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un entered South Korea on Friday for a historic summit which ended with the two countries pledging denuclearisation, he brought with him a large entourage, a healthy dose of goodwill – and his own toilet.

North Korea’s leader does not use public toilets and has his own personal WC brought along wherever he goes. His various vehicles have also been retrofitted to include bathroom capabilities, according to a report by a South Korean newspaper.

Needless to say, members of Kim’s entourage are strictly forbidden from using the private toilet.

Kim’s insistence on always using his own private toilet could easily be chalked up to North Korean leaders’ predilection for wacky behaviour. But according to at least one defector, there’s a very specific reason for it.

“The leader’s excretions contain information about his health status so they can’t be left behind,” Lee Yun-keol told the Washington Post.
