Works at Ta' Qali crafts village are ongoing, but communication between government and private contractors remains a challenge, according to architect Ivan Bartolo.

MIP architect Ivan Bartolo said he was making sure that the private contractors, the tenants and the government were all keeping up communication and that “no one gets a big head”.

Works at the Ta’ Qali crafts village project are set to be completed by the end of the year.

Speaking at the site, Economy Minister Chris Cardona envisioned a project with long term results, and said new operators were looking to open incubators and hubs for the village.

The Economy Minister said works at the Ta' Qali were “advanced and going at a faster rate than expected.”

He reiterated that the “high quality project will be a centre of artisanal excellence”.

Meetings with operators, management and staff of MIP were currently ongoing “so that teething problems would be regulated” as soon as possible, Dr Cardona said.

Recreational spaces, squares, and innovative hubs with new forms of artisanal crafts are all envisioned as part of the renovated crafts village.

The Ta' Qali crafts village project was announced last year, when Dr Cardona said the government would be investing €10 million in EU funds.
