A Maltese architect's award-winning UK studio has been commissioned to create a fleet of free-standing kiosks for London's Royal Parks.

The nine Mizzi Studio-designed kiosks will cater to hungry and thirsty patrons in iconic London sites Hyde Park, Green Park, St James' Park and Victoria Tower Gardens.

The Royal Parks, which include the aforementioned four sites and four others - receive an estimated 77 million visits every year. Parks are owned by the British monarchy and managed by the Royal Parks charity.

Mizzi Studio has designed the kiosks for artisan café company Colicci, which was awarded a deal to revamp and run 20 kiosks across the London parks.

Clad in British Oak and with copper and brass plinths, the curved kiosks have been designed to blend into the parks' tree-dense environment. The first kiosk will open on October 1.

Mizzi Studio director Jonathan Mizzi spent months exploring the parks' heritage together with Colicci's director Rob Colicci, to ensure each kiosk design was tailored to the history and nuance of its respective site.

A brass horseshoe kiosk in St James' Park - the hero structure - will mirror the ornate precious metals that  adorn the iconic Victoria Memorial close by.

“We are honoured to have been entrusted with such a prestigious project of this
size and scale," Mr Mizzi said.

"The design challenge was to create a family fleet of functional sculptures with a goal to continuously surprise and delight while further enhancing the visitor’s experience. This is an important milestone for the studio and is central to our commitment to innovative sustainable design for the public realm.”

The Royal Parks commission adds a further feather to Mr Mizzi's cap, with his studio having been named Breakthrough Talent of the Year at the 2017 FX Awards last November.
