Tarxien Rainbows earned a narrow victory by a goal to nil over Żejtun Corinthians to maintain their Premier League status, at the Hibs Stadium.

The Rainbows broke the deadlock inside seven minutes when Samba Tounkara sent the ball towards an unmarked James Brincat and the former Mosta and Birkirkara player sent a low drive into the near post.

Żejtun tried to stage a reaction but the Division One side could not capitalise with captain Adrian Carabott squandering a golden opportunity moments after Brincat's goal.

After the change of ends, Tarxien tried to kill the tie with a second goal but the Corinthians stood their ground and started to inch themselves up the field in an attempt to level the game, but Jose Borg's clan were able to neutralise their every chance to claim the spoils of this encounter.

The 2018/2019 season will be Tarxien's 11th top-flight campaign.
