The government is allocating €150,000 for band clubs to renovate their premises as part of efforts to safeguard cultural heritage.

Addressing a press conference this morning, Justice and Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said that band clubs’ role in the community is an essential one and clubs should take the opportunity being given to them.

Apart from funds for restoration of the band clubs, the fund is also aimed at helping organisations offer musical programmes that are of better quality.

The minister insisted that those submitting requests for funding must be registered as voluntary organisations, pointing out that in this way, transparency would be ensured.

Those band clubs interested in submitting proposals must do so by noon on June 15.

Band clubs will either benefit from a grant of a maximum of €5,000 or that of a maximum of €10,000.
