Newly-crowned champions Valletta and Premier League runners up Balzan were put on collision course in the FA Trophy semi-finals when they were drawn against each other in Monday's draw at the MFA Trophies Lounge.

The Citizens, who on Saturday secured their 24th league title after they beat Gżira United 2-0, are on course for a memorable league and Cup double but to reach that goal they will have to overcome the challenge of a Balzan side who are still smarting their 1-0 loss to Hibs that cost them the championship crown.

Surely the stage is set for a mouthwatering semi-final that will be played on Sunday at the National Stadium, kicking off at 4pm.

The FA Trophy semi-finals will kick off on Saturday when Birkirkara will face Sliema Wanderers.

For the Stripes a win over the Wanderers would ensure they would play in the Europa League qualifiers next summer as even if they lose the final they would earn the fourth and final spot in Europe as they finished fourth in the Premier League.

But surely Sliema, who enjoy a great tradition in this competition having lifted the trophy 21 times, will be determined to go all the way and make up for a rather disappointing Premier League season.

PROGRAMME

SATURDAY (National Stadium)

4pm Birkirkara vs Sliema Wanderers.

SUNDAY (National Stadium)
