A recent article in this newspaper said thatvegetables were the most nutritious food man can eat.
I completely agree. However, what worries me is that vegetables are far too expensive nowadays. Not to forget the pesticides they contain and which need to be thoroughly washed in clean water.
I am sure more than two-thirds of the population cannot even afford to eat a tomato every day and I am being generous. If you had to add other things that make it tastier like, say, bacon, cauliflower, pumpkin and so on, it would become even more expensive. I am of an age when little was known about the benefits of eating vegetables. In those days, minestrone used to be called “l-ikla tal fqir’’, the poor man’s dish.
