The Strada Stretta Concept, under the auspices of the Valletta 2018 Foundation is today presenting Re-Routing Roots, a documentary film directed by Astarti Athanasiadou.

The documentary aims to depict and embody the former reality elements of Strait Street, such as eroticism, violence, intensity, excitement, passion and the use of live arts (cabaret, singing, acting) as labour for attraction and capital.

It also aims to answer questions such as: how does this dissolve in today’s situation? Which images still withhold the essence of the ‘Gut’? How do we recognise them and learn from them? How do we revive the memory of the ‘glorious days’ and attempt to identify today’s ‘glory instead of perpetuating nostalgic reproduction’?

Re-Routing Roots is being screened today at The Splendid in Strait Street, Valletta, at 8pm. Entrance is free of charge.
