The first season of Nuna Palk performances for children at Teatru Salesjan will come to a close in May with Land of the big word factory by Theatre Anon.

Hailed as one of Malta’s most innovative theatre companies, Theatre Anon has devised an inventive performance with beautiful puppetry, music and live projections.

The show presents an imaginary land where all words are produced in a huge word factory. No word may be spoken unless it is bought and swallowed. In this world, the rich get to speak more often and use more powerful words.

Poorer people cannot afford to buy these words and must use more common, less effective words, if they can afford any words at all. A young boy, Phileas, must find his own way of expressing his love for a young girl Cybele. But what can he do when he can only afford a few words?

Set up in 1994, Theatre Anon is made up of performers and theatre makers who all contribute directly to the creative process including composition, costume, set and light design, stage direction and physical work with the aim of ensuring that audiences enjoy a highly theatrical and entertaining experience.

Land of the big word factory is directed by Chris Gatt and performed by Liliana Portelli, Pierre Stafrace, Charlotte Stafrace, Paula Fleri Soler with live music by Jes Psaila.

The original story “La grande fabrique de mots” written by Agnes de Lestrade and illustrated by Valeria Docampo has been adapted into 27 different languages including a Maltese version Il-Fabbrika tal-kliem by Clare Azzopardi and published by Merlin.

Land of the big word factory is recommended for children above the age of 4 and will be performed at Teatru Salesjan, Sliema on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May at 6:30pm. Tickets available from www.tsmalta.com/tickets start at €8 and include a special offer for families with a free ticket for Nannu or Nanna.

Land of the big word factory was premiered with critical acclaim at the ŻiguŻajg International Arts Festival for Children and Young People and is being co-presented by Teatru Salesjan and Culture Venture.
