A young motorcyclist from Għarb was airlifted to Mater Dei Hospital on Wednesday afternoon following a traffic collision on the outskirts of Xewkija. 

The 22-year-old man was hurt when he collided with a Mitsubishi Pajero driven by a 66-year-old Nadur man at around 5.15pm on Triq l-Imġarr, police said. He was riding a Yamaha motorcycle at the time. 

An ambulance was rushed to the scene and the victim was taken to Gozo General Hospital for treatment, where doctors certified him as being seriously injured.

From there, he was taken by helicopter to Mater Dei Hospital in Malta, to receive further treatment. 

Duty magistrate Joanne Vella Cuschieri is leading an inquiry into the case.
