Justin Caruana Scicluna handed Malta its first gold medal at the Mediterranean Championships that are currently being held in Turkey.

The Maltese bowler dominated the men’s event, topping the overall leaderboard with 1,254 pins.

Greece's Roros Stamatios placed second with 1,235 while Tolga Sismanogullar had to settle for bronze with 1,214.

Mauro Anastasi also managed to finish a top 10 finish when placing eighth on 1,178.

This is the second time that Caruana Scicluna has won gold in the singles event having topped the same category in the tournament played in Slovenian in 2013. 

Caruana Scicluna’s success marks Malta’s 40th gold medal at the Championships.

On Wednesday, the Maltese bowlers will be in action in the doubles competition.

Apart from Caruana Scicluna and Anastasi the Malta team is also formed by Sue Abela and Sara Xuereb.
