Gozitan Mgr Alfred Xuereb, who was appointed Apostolic Nuncio for South Korea and elevated to Archbishop by Pope Francis at the Vatican on March 19, recently presided over various functions in Gozo, including the Cathedral, St George’s Basilica, other churches and at Gozo General Hospital, where he celebrated Mass in a ward where one of his former classmates is recovering.

Mgr Xuereb also celebrated Mass at Our Lady of Loreto parish church in Għajnsielem where he blessed the hands of a new clock affixed to the façade of the church. After Mass he visited the Augustinian Sisters of Għajnsielem where he cut a cake.

Last Sunday, Mgr Xuereb led a Pontifical Mass at Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary, assisted by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech and Tripoli Bishop George Bugeja, OFM.

Mgr Xuereb, titular Archbishop of Amantea in Italy, was formerly secretary to Pope Benedict.
