A dance performance by Malta's national dance troupe will feature novel wireless motion caption technology, ZfinMalta announced on Friday.

Malta Calls will feature a collaboration of different artists combining drama dance as well as film. The event, artists Daniel Strutt and Shaun O’Connor (Prickimage) explained, is not meant to be just a performance but also to dance along with.

What sets the performance apart is the fact that images are being created for the performance using a wireless motion capture suit, allowing the dancer's movements to be recorded in external environments and giving them much more freedom of movement than is possible inside a studio.

It is the first time this technology is being used in a performance, Dr Strutt explained.

The performance also promises to have a longer-lasting legacy, Dr Strutt added: research into the wireless suit's potential impact in the gaming and film industry is currently underway.

The event will be held at St Clare’s College, in Pembroke, on July 20 from 8pm till 2am.
