As summer fast approaches, inspections should be held in all beaches to gauge their state of cleanliness and safety across Malta, Comino and Gozo. The plans then made should also provide for an adequate number of rubbish bins both in roads and at beaches.

I appeal to all citizens to give their share and separate domestic rubbish before this reaches waste recycling plants, thus avoiding problems that would then become more difficult to handle. In this regard, I would like to express my appreciation to waste collectors for the daily service they render to us. May I take this opportunity to complain about the pigeon droppings on balconies, roofs and pavements not to mention clothes being thus stained while hanging to dry outdoors.

Recently, I watched a scary documentary on the health issues linked to pigeon droppings. Pigeon enthusiasts should ensure their pastime is not an inconvenience to neighbours.

EU regulations and practices are followed and emulated in Malta but the daily washing of pavements/streets does not seem to feature on anybody’s agenda, not even that of local councils.
