Structural works will be carried out at Mistra Bridge as from tonight, Transport Malta said.

It said the works are urgently required to ensure the stability of the bridge. The works will also be part of preparations for an upgrade of the overlying road.

The north-bound lane, from Xemxija to Mellieħa will be closed as from this evening. Another part of this route, Triq il-Pwales at Xemxija, is also closed since it is being rebuilt and resurfaced.

This avoids disrupting vehicle flows twice for separate works along the same route, TM said.

Buses and other heavy vehicles can be driven towards Mellieha through Xemxija and Triq il-Mistra by following directions by officials on site.

Other North-bound traffic will be diverted from the St Paul’s Bay Bypass towards Triq Għajn Tuffieha to the road going through Limbordin and Il-Mizieb.

The south-bound lane, from Mellieha to Xemxija and St Paul’s Bay, will remain open at all times. However, motorists were urged to use alternative routes towards Manikata and Ghajn Tuffieha.
