Air Malta to start services to Kiev

Kiev is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Europe.

Kiev is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Europe.

Air Malta will start operating a weekly (Tuesday) flight to Kiev, the cital city of Ukraine, from June 19. This new scheduled service, announced during a State visit to the Ukrainian capital by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca last October, will offer visa-free travel to both Ukrainian visitors and Maltese tourists wishing to explore this beautiful country.

Paul Sies, chief commercial officer, said: “Kiev is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Europe. Through the introduction of this route we are now increasing our services to Eastern Europe and in the process we are consolidating our position in this region. We shall be tapping into a new market which will stimulate more passenger traffic between both countries. This announcement is another achievement and further good news from Air Malta that is continuing to expand for the benefit of the local tourism industry and the population of the islands who now have more opportunities to discover new destinations.”

Air Malta chairman Charles Mangion said: “Ukraine, one of 15 new routes, is a welcome addition to Air Malta’s 33 other destinations for this summer. With an ambitious schedule in place, the airline will be operating 4,155 (+30 per cent) more flights than last year. Together with our partners, tour operators, travel agents and other stakeholders, the airline and its motivated workforce are working hard to ensure success and fill up all the capacity we are floating on the market while enhancing tourism opportunities and supporting other economic sectors important to the island’s development.”

Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said: “Ukrainian visitors no longer require a visa to visit Malta and other European countries. This opens up a new passengers’ market. Air Malta has started promoting this new destination with Ukrainian tour operators.”

With so many wonderful parks and outstanding tree-lined boulevards it is no wonder that Kiev is also considered to be one Europe’s greenest capital cities. Its skyline, dominated by golden domes of cathedrals and monasteries, is definitely a unique attraction. Religion is an integral part of the local cultural heritage of the Ukrainian citizens and this is heavily corroborated by the presence of splendid churches and monasteries adorned with rich architecture and superb ornate interiors.
