Buses that pick up school children and teach them about road safety will be among the initiatives launched on Friday.

Fundación MAPFRE in collaboration with Malta Public Transport announced a €105,000 road safety campaign that will reach thousands of children across Malta and Gozo.

The local campaign will also see theatre productions, workshops with a Maltese band, and a number of other community projects carried out in conjunction with local councils.

MAPFRE chief executive Antonio Huertas said the foundation had been carrying out such initiatives around the world for some 20 years, and looked forward to giving back something to the Maltese community.

Transport Minister Ian Borg addressed a group of school children who attended the announcement.

“We have lost enough people we love on the roads. We need your help to make roads safer for everyone,” he told them.
