When Cercle, a livestream platform dedicated to showcasing electronic music, approached Blank's Franco Vella about using one of Malta's stunning locations to livestream one of their iconic Monday night DJ sets, little did they know that they were about to discover one of the most spectacular views that the Mediterranean has to offer.
The mission was simple: find an appropriately unique spot from where to broadcast a set by French musician Fakear, known for his eclectic dance sets.
Cercle's live performances typically take place in very carefully-selected venues, with the company trying to create a dialogue between the artist and the location, mixing music with art, architecture and travel.
Past locations have included castles, museums, monuments, cliffs, beaches, natural wonders and so forth, providing a unique backdrop for the musicians' stages while promoting locations, regions and countries.
Enter Franco, whose name is synonymous with Blank events. Franco, of course, is no stranger to identifying unique locations for music events; Blank performances have taken place at locations in Malta as diverse as St Elmo, Palazzo tal-Virtu, the Gunpost in Valletta, Razzett l-Aħmar, Rabat fields...Location, location, location is taken to a new level.
It didn't take too long for Franco - working hand in hand with the Malta Tourism Authority - to identify a number of gorgeous locations on Malta and Gozo, all offering equal potential as the ideal spot for the recording session.
Eventually, Cercle picked tal-Mixta cave, on the sister island and with the support of the Nadur council, Fakear will be producing a private live performance, without audience, on Monday evening. The actual venue will not be open to the public, but music-lovers will be able to enjoy the set in real time thanks to live streaming.
The performance will be broadcast through a livestream which can be accessed through Cercle's Facebook page. Cercle's music broadcasts typically reach anything up to 13 million views on Youtube.
