The following are the top stories in Malta's newspapers.

Times of Malta reports how, according to a World Bank report, many young people in Malta are failing basic cognitive skills.  It also reports how a guesthouse has been given planning permission in scenic Wied Għomor.

The Malta Independent says Transport Malta has made progress in plans to remove a small tanker which ran aground at Qawra in February. It also recalls the killing of Martin Luther King 50 years ago.

In-Nazzjon leads with the proposals made yesterday by the Nationalist Party for a reform of local government. It also reports that HSBC may consider leaving Malta.

l-orizzont says there are no new developments in investigations into the death of young Zach Meli in Paceville last month. Toxicology results are expected in May.
