Updated 11.35am - Medical condition update

Two motorcyclists were taken to hospital on Monday morning after colliding with one another on a busy thoroughfare during rush hour. 

The collision happened at 7.40am on Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli, St Julians, police said, and involved a 49-year-old Naxxar man riding a Yamaha YP400 and a 51-year-old Sliema man riding a Honda 60 bike. 

Both drivers were taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment. The Sliema man was seriously hurt in the crash, with the other rider certified as having suffered grave injuries. 

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale is leading an inquiry into the case.
